Interactive Learning
Uninterrupted
Specialised repair and preventative maintenance for Smart Board, Promethean, and Epson interactive projection systems. Keeping classrooms operational across Ireland and the UK.
The Critical Nature of Classroom AV
In the modern educational landscape, the interactive whiteboard projector is the focal point of the classroom. It is no longer a luxury; it is a fundamental tool for curriculum delivery. When a projector fails—whether due to a blown lamp, a degraded DMD chip, or blocked filters—it disrupts the learning environment, forcing teachers to abandon lesson plans and reducing student engagement.
RepairTech understands this urgency. We function not just as a repair service, but as a strategic partner to IT Departments and Facilities Managers in schools and colleges. Unlike generic electronics repair shops, we possess specific expertise in the Ultra Short Throw (UST) geometry and interactive sensor calibration required for brands like Smart, Promethean, and Epson. We diagnose beyond the symptom to the root cause, ensuring that when a unit returns to the ceiling mount, it stays there.
Our workshops are equipped with specialised jigs to align UST mirrors and clean optical pathways obscured by years of chalk dust and classroom debris. We offer a viable, sustainable, and cost-effective alternative to the premature disposal of expensive AV hardware.
Minimal Downtime

Smart Technologies
Models: Unifi 35/45, UF55, UF65, UF70, UF75, UX60, UX80
The integrated "boom arm" projectors from Smart are workhorses, but they suffer from specific age-related failures. We frequently resolve issues with the Colour Wheel (manifesting as a loud whirring noise or monochrome image) and the DMD Chip (white/black dots).
Because these units are inextricably linked to the interactive whiteboard experience, alignment is crucial. Our technicians are experts in resetting the optical geometry of the UF series to ensure the touchpoints on the board match the projected image perfectly.
- Colour Wheel Replacement
- Ballast Repair (No Power)
- Optical Tunnel Cleaning
- Remote Control Codes
Promethean World
Models: PRM-10/20/30/32/35/45, EST-P1, UST-P1
Promethean projectors, particularly the PRM and UST series, are prone to dust ingress which severely degrades brightness over time. Often, schools replace expensive lamps only to find the image remains dim. This is usually due to a dirty optical path or a degraded polarizing filter.
At RepairTech, we perform deep-level Ultrasonic Cleaning of the optical engine components. This restores factory brightness levels without necessarily requiring a lamp change. We also stock refurbishment kits for the EST-P1 mirror assembly, a common failure point that distorts the image geometry.
- Deep Optical Cleaning
- Mainboard Logic Repair
- Fan Replacement (Overheat)
- Filter Housing Mod
Epson Education
Models: EB-400, EB-500, EB-600, EB-700 Series, BrightLink
Epson's 3LCD technology delivers vibrant colours essential for education, but these precision optical engines require specific care. The most common failure mode we encounter is Thermal degradation caused by blocked electrostatic filters (ELPAF series). This leads to yellowing of the image or purple blotches as the polarising plates overheat.
RepairTech offers a comprehensive Optical Engine Overhaul. We disassemble the prism block to replace burnt polarisers and perform precision realignment of the LCD panels. We also service the interactive pen modules and touch-finger units found on the newer EB-695Wi and 700 series models.
- LCD Prism Re-alignment
- Polariser Replacement
- Iris/Auto-Iris Repair
- Interactive Pen Sync
Classroom Fault Identification
Use the matrix below to identify common error states. Indicators simulate real-world LED flash codes.
| Projector Brand | Error State / Symptom | Visual Indicator | Required Intervention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Epson (EB-5 Series) | Temp / Filter Warning |
TEMP LED FLASHING
|
URGENT ACTION Airflow obstructed. Requires internal clean & new ELPAF filter. Do not ignore: risks LCD prism burn. |
| Smart (UF55/65) | Dead / No Power |
SOLID RED LIGHT
|
SYSTEM FAILURE Mainboard or Ballast failure. Requires component level board repair. Lamp replacement will NOT fix this. |
| Promethean (PRM-30) | "Starry Night" Image |
WHITE SPECKLES ON SCREEN
|
DMD FAILURE Digital Micromirror Device (DLP Chip) has expired. Requires chip replacement and thermal compound re-application. |
| Panasonic / NEC | Dim / Fading Image |
LAMP LED ON
|
CONSUMABLE END OF LIFE Lamp arc degradation. Service requires genuine lamp module and rigorous optical cleaning to restore LUX levels. |
The RepairTech Educational Standard
Experience
With over 15 years servicing the Irish and UK education sectors, we understand the specific wear-and-tear patterns of classroom environments. We have repaired over 12,000 education units.
Expertise
Our labs are equipped with clean-flow benches for dust-free optical assembly. We use proprietary alignment software for Smart and Promethean UST lenses that general repair shops cannot access.
Trust
We offer a "No Fix, No Fee" policy for schools and provide a comprehensive warranty on all repairs. We are fully insured and tax compliant, simplifying the procurement process for school boards.
Sustainable Asset Management
Schools are under pressure to reduce e-waste. Disposing of 20+ projectors is costly and environmentally damaging due to mercury lamps.
RepairTech helps schools achieve Green Flag status by repairing rather than replacing. When units are truly end-of-life, we provide WEEE certificates for safe disposal, ensuring zero landfill impact.
